Multifaceted Valerie Summers is as at ease in a designer ball gown as she is in jeans and is always up for a challenge.  How could she not try scuba diving for the first time when she visited Hayman Island at the Great Barrier Reef.   She managed to windsurf around the harbor of the Bitter End in the British Virgin Islands…also a first.  Horseback riding through Ireland from inn to inn proved memorable, although she did learn a thing or two about the importance of proper English style riding gear. 

In Switzerland, she skied across the border into France for a gourmet lunch and was surprised to find she could actually ski back to Champerey after several glasses of wine which accompanied the meal. A two week trip along China’s Silk Road was fascinating and well worth the inconveniences. 

She relaxes and replenishes her energy at both luxury and basic spas….as long as they give a good massage. Equally at home in the most sophisticated settings, Valerie also haunts world famous museums and is a theater, ballet and opera buff.  The key to memorable  travel for Valerie is an active, full schedule with a new experience thrown in for good measure.

Valerie publishes Southern California Guide website and freelances for numerous domestic and overseas guide books, magazines and newspapers.

Family

I have three sons:

Keith, age 36, takes after his mom.  He is a travel writer, movie reviewer and does a variety of other writings.  He lives in San Francisco, witty, handsome and unmarried.

Gregory, age 34, loves working with children, animals and plants.  He also writes a an avocation.  He is currently employed at a private elementary school.  He, too, is single, handsome and serious.

Kevin, age 29, graduated with three masters degrees from the University of Chicago and is currently working at the Marketing Director for SCORE, a national high tech educational after school facility owned by Kaplan.  He
lives in San Francisco with his bride and pet turtle, name Amu.

Daniele, age 31, the newest addition to the family, recently married my youngest son.  She is a social worker in the Bay Area, working with underprivileged children. 

My mother lives in Brentwood, just five miles from my home.  She is alert, active and amazing.  She continues to take yoga and current events classes.
